I rediscovered photography when I was given a quality camera on retiring from a successful business career in 2005.
I had been taking pictures of the beach at Borth, the scene of many happy childhood holidays, for a number of years already. Returning to Borth, with more time to spare, I found myself looking at the beach in an increasingly reflective way. As I watched the more I became intrigued by the relationship between the sea, the stones and the groynes and felt inspired to capture these fascinating aspects of the natural elements at work.
From these early endeavours I became encouraged to improve my photographic ability and was really delighted to find that others were excited by the work I produced and shared my passion for the beauty of nature. It has given me great pleasure to be able to create quality canvas prints and blocks from my images for people to enjoy in their homes.
2011 was an unexpected and very enjoyable year. Because my book had captured the historic views of the beach prior to the sea defences work, I was invited to hold a solo exhibition of prints from 'A Coastal Reflection' at the ADRIFT GALLERY in Borth during July and August, which was a wonderful experience. Other exhibitions followed later that year, in Shrewsbury, Worcestershire and closer to home in Warwickshire too.
In January 2012 I was delighted to be able to take the Borth exhibition to The Gateway Galleries in Shrewsbury, my family home town. It was great to see the images displayed in such a lovely location on the River Severn, and there were many wonderful comments in the Visitors Book from other Borth lovers living in Shrewsbury. See Exhibition page for notes from other exhibitions.
I have since produced a second book of Borth photographs 'Changing Coastal Reflection'. It contains more historic images of the beach at Borth, images of the beach works in progress from April 2011, as well as some images of aspects of the new elements of the beach.
The books are available at the ADRIFT GALLERY in Borth and also directly from www.blurb.co.uk. They are created using Blurb software, you can viist their website, search for me and they will appear. Or you can contact me and I can send you books direct, if you prefer.
I have also created books of my photographs from photography trips to Argyll in 2010, Tuscany in May 2011 and Venice in January 2014. I have now completed books on Umbria 2015 and Cornwall 2018 and plan to add some images in due course.
